Antony Joins Manchester United From Ajax In An £85 Million Transfer Deal To Reunite With Erik Ten Hag

In the first interview following the deal’s confirmation, Antony outlines Manchester United’s transfer decisions.

Antony, a Brazilian international, cited Erik ten Hag as one of the primary influences in his choice to sign with Manchester United.

After agreeing to an £85 million deal with Ajax earlier this week, the Red Devils officially announced his formal arrival at Old Trafford on Thursday morning. As Ten Hag revamps his new team after being appointed at the end of the previous season, he has become their sixth signing of the summer.

When Ten Hag was the manager in Amsterdam, Antony excelled and won back-to-back Eredivisie championships. The Red Devils, who were seeking to expand their alternatives in attack, took notice of his performances.

With United’s formal confirmation of his signing on Thursday, Ten Hag has finally secured his main attacking target. Furthermore, after signing a five-year contract, Antony gave an explanation of why he chose to move to Old Trafford.

“This is an incredible moment in my career to be joining one of the most iconic clubs in the world. I’m thankful to everyone who has believed in me, especially my family, and all my coaches and team-mates, because I could not have got here without them,”

“Playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax was perfect for me and my development. His style of football and coaching brings out the best in me, and I am excited by what he has told me about his plans and ambitions in Manchester”.

“My time at Ajax was fantastic and I will always be grateful for the trust they put in me, but now I am ready for the next challenge, and I can’t wait to join my new team-mates and play my part in bringing success to Manchester United.”

Ten Hag, who had a rocky start to his rule, has also expressed his happiness at Antony’s choice to join United. The Red Devils take on Leicester on Thursday, but Antony probably won’t play until Sunday’s match against Arsenal.

“We signed him the first time he was in Europe and we supported him to find his way. From the first moment, he really impressed in terms of his football qualities and as a person. He’s a fighter and someone who has a real willingness to win games, I like that,”

“He showed that from the first moment in Amsterdam, from the first game with the winning goal. That is what he always contributes to the team – a fighting spirit who makes actions and I expect the same from him here in Manchester.”

Erik Ten Hag

“He’s a player with a winning mentality and someone who is creative. He likes to dribble, he sees the final pass, he can score a goal, and I think the fans will be excited by him and the way he plays his game. We want to compete with the best clubs and we want to win every game, so you need a good squad.

“A squad that also has competition but also during the season you have injuries, suspensions, and loss of form, so then you need substitutes to fill in the role.” You need quality, and I think now we have a squad that has the quality. “
