As they consider a summer transfer for the playmaker from Leicester City, Arsenal are said to be “in communication” with Youri Tielemans’ camp.
Now that the summer transfer period is well under way, Arsenal have already made a signing.
Though a number of players are still being linked with a move to the club, it is assumed that Arsenal won’t stop there.
As their first acquisition of the transfer season, the Gunners have welcomed Marquinhos, a young Brazilian, to the Emirates Stadium. After moving from Sao Paulo, he signed a long-term deal in north London.
In the midst of transfer rumors involving Arsenal and Tottenham, Leicester City midfielder and Belgium international Youri Tielemans has acknowledged he will “listen to other offers.”
Due to the fact that the midfielder is nearing the final year of his contract, the Belgium international is set to depart the King Power Stadium this summer.
Leicester is rumored to be willing to sell in order to keep Tielemans from leaving as a free agent at the end of the next campaign.
The 25-year-old, who joined the Foxes from Monaco on an initial loan deal in 2019 and has made more than 100 appearances, has drawn interest from rival clubs in North London, Arsenal and Tottenham.
The Gunners’ inability to qualify for the Champions League the following season was considered a potential obstacle to a summer transfer to the Emirates Stadium.
A recent article from The Athletic, however, indicates that Tielemans no longer sees competing as essential.
Then, a report from the Dutch publication HLN said that Arsenal had been in contact with the midfielder’s representation for more than a month.
According to reports, the Gunners’ hierarchy is “convinced” that a deal can be reached soon after the international break.
Tielemans is currently serving with Belgium, and before the summer break, Roberto Martinez’s team will play Poland in another Nations League match.
According to HLN, Leicester have not yet set a price for their star midfielder, but sources suggest a sum of around £30 million might be sufficient to close a deal.
Given that Granit Xhaka, a Swiss international, is once again rumored to be on the move, Tielemans may team up with Thomas Partey in the center of Arsenal’s midfield next season.
Before the match against Poland, the former Anderlecht prospect was questioned about his future after making two Nations League starts for the Red Devils.
Tielemans told the media, “That is not ruled out. But I can also remain. I’ve been treated incredibly well at Leicester, and I feel right at home. I give the club everything up to the very last minute.
But of course, you have to consider other chances, your profession, and occasionally, you have to make decisions. Perhaps one will come my way. I’m happy where I am.
My contract is still in effect for another year. I don’t feel rushed. When you switch clubs, it’s not merely for the sake of change.
For a player, the most essential thing is to play, and when a fantastic project is on the table, you change.
I’ll have to decide what to do with my life this summer, but for the moment, I’m chilling out and concentrating on the Red Devils.”
After a spending binge of over £100 million in the previous summer, Arsenal are predicted to be active in the transfer market once more.
After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette left, Arteta is rumored to be looking for a new striker.
Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus is apparently on Arteta’s list of potential replacements.
