According to reports, a deal has been reached between Barcelona and Manchester City for Bernardo Silva, prompting speculation about Frenkie de Jong’s future.
Due to financial constraints, Barcelona may now be compelled to unload the Dutchman given the strong links between Chelsea and Manchester United.
Journalist Gerard Romero claims that an agreement has already been made between Barcelona and Manchester City on the transfer costs for Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva, with the sum reportedly being less than €80 million.
It’s unexpected because prior rumours claimed that the Premier League champions would demand roughly €100 million for their star midfielder, but it appears that they have compromised for significantly less.
Because of personal issues, the Portugal international has been considering leaving the Etihad Stadium for the past few seasons.
The 27-year-old, who moved to the North-West of England in the summer of 2017 from AS Monaco, is thought to have grown dissatisfied with his way of life there.
As a result, Bernardo Silva has been interested in moving closer to home and is excited about the prospect of joining La Liga.
A relocation might be nearing completion since the journalist’s Monday allegation that Silva had already begun shopping for a home in Barcelona.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Man City, has recently refused to rule out the possibility that Bernardo will leave the team.
The Portuguese manager’s team at the Etihad is not complete without him, but the player is rumored to be interested in moving to the Camp Nou following five successful seasons in the Premier League.
After contributing unrelenting energy and technical skill in the centre of the park last season and scoring 13 goals in 50 appearances, the 27-year-old’s departure would be a big blow to City.
After spending big on Jules Kounde, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski, many people assumed Barcelona’s transfer business was over, but president Joan Laporta isn’t taking it easy.
Barça have been actively trying to sign Silva for a long time, and he has been on their agenda.
A move had been challenging, though, given the circumstances surrounding the registration of new players and Frenkie de Jong’s resistance to leaving.
However, it appears that the Blaugrana have made significant strides in their search for the 27-year-old midfielder.
On the other hand, Silva was thought to be daydreaming about the prospect of playing for the Catalan powerhouses and had already made arrangements with his agent, Jorge Mendes, for a transfer to Camp Nou.
Although it was first thought that de Jong’s departure would be essential for Barcelona to sign Silva, that seems to no longer be the case.
But even if the Blaugrana are successful in acquiring the midfielder from Man City, his registration might pose a problem.
The Catalan giants still intend to sign Marcos Alonso to their roster even though they have yet to register any of the new players they bought this summer.
It would be interesting to see how Joan Laporta and co. manage to successfully register all of them given that Silva also appears to be on his way.
