Barcelona Set Up Frenkie De Jong Transfer Meeting With Man United

United appear to still have a chance to sign Frenkie de Jong after a meeting was reportedly arranged between the Catalan giants and the player’s representatives in an effort to press for a transfer.

As the Spanish giants continue to try and offload the playmaker, they might be tempted to make one last push to pry Frenkie de Jong away from Barcelona.

Thomas Tuchel appeared to knock Chelsea out of the running to sign Dutch playmaker Frenkie de Jong, which has handed United a surprise boost in their pursuit of a last-minute deal.

Due to United’s success in acquiring Casemiro from Real Madrid last week, the pursuit of De Jong is no longer as urgent as it once was.

After Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, and Lisandro Martinez, the Brazilian international became Erik ten Hag’s fourth acquisition for the Red Devils and cost £70 million.

If the 25-year-old changes his mind about moving to the Premier League, it appears that United might yet be persuaded to come back to the negotiation table for him.

Since the beginning of the summer, United have been after De Jong, who is expected to team up with his old Ajax coach Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

However, a transfer has not yet taken place because the player reportedly wants to remain in Spain.

And now it has come to light that Barcelona intends to make one final push to sell De Jong.

According to a recent report from Diario Sport, the Spanish giants have set a new meeting with De Jong’s representatives, Ali Dursun and Hasan Centikaya, for later this week.

Additionally, Tuchel appeared to quell rumors of a last-minute Chelsea bid for the Barcelona player, giving United’s efforts to salvage a De Jong deal another boost.

After Chelsea’s humiliating 3-0 loss to Leeds over the weekend, Tuchel was questioned about the chances of returning to the transfer market to buy a midfielder.

Tuchel stated they already had Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher, and Mateo Kovacic.

De Jong’s likely destination had been Chelsea, but their withdrawal in the last weeks of the transfer season might have made the playmaker think twice about his interest in Manchester United.

Despite signing Casemiro, a recent report from the Dutch publication Telegraaf, through Sport, stated that Manchester United intended to send a delegation to Spain to try to finalize a deal for De Jong.

The Spanish giants are reportedly anxious to unload the midfielder, who is one of the highest paid at the cash-strapped club, despite Barcelona president Joan Laporta publicly expressing his wish to maintain De Jong.

Barcelona is struggling to find the money necessary to register new signing Jules Kounde with La Liga, and if a solution isn’t found quickly, they risk losing the player.

The French defender apparently has a clause in his contract that indicates he is free to leave Barcelona if he is not registered by August 31.

He was reportedly unavailable to play in Sunday night’s 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad.

Despite playing 85 minutes in the same game, De Jong may yet leave the Nou Camp before the summer transfer window ends at the beginning of the coming month.
