According to reports, Memphis Depay and Roberto Firmino, two seasoned attackers, are being discussed for a swap deal between Barcelona and Liverpool.
Barcelona will reportedly try to buy Roberto Firmino during the January transfer window, according to a report by the Spanish daily SPORT.
The Catalan powerhouses are giving Memphis Depay to the Merseyside club in exchange for the services of the seasoned Liverpool forward.
The first piece of the Liverpool juggernaut’s puzzle, which has advanced greatly under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance, was Roberto Firmino.
The Brazilian international has left a lasting legacy at Anfield since joining the Reds from Hoffenheim seven years ago.
The 30-year-old has made a solid start to the 2022–23 season, with three goals and three assists in his first eight appearances across all competitions.
Firmino, though, is in the final year of his contract with Liverpool, and Barcelona is taking notice of his predicament.
In his five games for Liverpool in the Premier League, Firmino has three goals and three assists. The team’s 9-0 demolition of Bournemouth, though, saw five of those contributions.
After six games, the Anfield team, which is currently tenth in the Premier League, has struggled in attack. Thus, they might be compelled to search for a new forward in January.
According to reports Liverpool is also considering a possible transfer for Barcelona’s Depay.
Firmino might move in the opposite direction as a result of the agreement, and there would be no transfer fee.
Barcelona’s interest is most likely a result of the club’s choice to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Chelsea on the final day of the summer transfer period.
With the departure of Aubameyang and Martin Braithwaite’s subsequent departure as a free agent from the Spotify Camp Nou, Xavi Hernandez is now just left with Robert Lewandowski as a reliable striker.
Memphis Depay is most effective on the left flank, even though he can play as a central striker.
In addition, Xavi’s long-term ambitions do not include the seasoned Dutch attacker, and Barcelona even tried to offload him during the summer transfer window.
The Catalan giants may have finally found the ideal option to get rid of Depay after starting discussions with Liverpool over a Firmino exchange.
Barcelona will gain a player in Firmino who enjoys playing in the 4-3-3 configuration and who will add something fresh to the team.
A dynamic attacker who works well in Klopp’s system will be acquired by Liverpool in the meantime.
According to reports, talks on a Firmino and Depay trade deal could pick up steam as January approaches.
It would be intriguing to observe how the negotiations between Barcelona and Liverpool regarding the Depay and Firmino swap deal go.
