Jules Kounde of Sevilla has been the subject of a tussle between Chelsea and Barcelona, but there appears to be some hope that the 23-year-old may not end up at the Nou Camp after all.
Jules Kounde has apparently decided against moving to Barcelona, as has been indicated, and Chelsea have submitted a proposal for him and are awaiting Sevilla’s response.
Kounde’s future has been uncertain due to conflicting reports of a transfer to Chelsea and Barcelona’s interest.
Thomas Tuchel has already taken steps to strengthen his backline this summer by bringing in Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli in a £34 million deal.
Having lost Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger to free transfers to Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively.
While Tuchel continues to look for two more center-backs, a deal for Nathan Ake of Manchester City has fallen through for the Blues.
Sevilla defender Kounde, who Chelsea came agonizingly close to signing last summer but a deal fell through late in the window, is now the center of attention once again.
However, it appears there is hope that the 23-year-old may not be headed for the Nou Camp as first believed. The Blues will compete with Barcelona for the Frenchman.
According to Mirror Football, Chelsea has made a proposal for Kounde and is eager to close the deal quickly.
Despite an offer being made, nothing has yet been settled between the two teams.
As talks proceed, the Blues are currently awaiting Sevilla’s answer to their offer.
However, a new development about the defender’s transfer desire has led Tuchel’s staff to believe that Kounde would ultimately end up at Stamford Bridge.
The Guardian says that Kounde has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Chelsea and is not adamant about moving to Barcelona as had previously been suggested in certain stories.
This summer, Sevilla is said to accept a bid for their asset in the neighborhood of £51 million.
Barcelona still poses a threat, despite their financial difficulties.
The cash-strapped Catalan club appear bent on going head-to-head over another common target, with Xavi reportedly trying to convince Kounde to join the Blaugrana over the Blues.
The cash-strapped Catalan club beat Chelsea to the signing of Raphinha from Leeds earlier in the summer.
Chelsea have added Raheem Sterling to their assault after allowing Romelu Lukaku to return to Inter Milan on loan.
The club acquired the winger from City in a deal that could go up to £50 million. If Kounde signs, additional exits are expected.
Cesar Azpilicueta may leave Chelsea for Barcelona this summer, and the Spanish powerhouses are still interested in signing Marcus Alonso.
As Barcelona looks to continue their seismic squad reorganization this summer, the two might be the newest to join Xavi’s revolution.
The two teams have been highly involved in the transfer market this summer, with Chelsea hoping to at least land one of Raphinha or Ousmane Dembele.
However, Barcelona’s financial sleight of hand allowed them to rush in and sign Raphinha as well as accost Dembele to a new contract, leaving the Blues empty-handed.
It’s unclear whether this will be Raphinha II or whether the Blues will finally pull one over on Xavi.
