Cody Gakpo on Man United’s radar with the club set to hold talks over a possible signing

This season, Cody Gakpo has been in excellent goal-scoring form for PSV Eindhoven and the Netherlands, and Manchester United is expected to rekindle their interest in him in January.

Cody Gakpo is apparently the subject of negotiations between Manchester United and PSV Eindhoven this summer, although the two teams continue to value the forward at $10 million apart.

Although the attacker was extensively linked to Manchester United over the summer, the club finally prioritized a deal for Antony, signing the Brazil international from Ajax.

The 23-year-old has scored three goals in four appearances for the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup, helping Louis van Gaal’s team advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Old Trafford seems to be Gakpo’s most likely destination, and he appears ready to depart the Eredivisie club this summer.

The star of the Dutch national team has caught the eye of the Premier League, and the 23-year-old has openly discussed Manchester United’s desire to buy him.

Several other Premier League teams were keeping an eye on Gakpo’s position, including Leeds and Southampton.

Despite the development of young talent Alejandro Garnacho, United’s lack of striking depth this season is due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure last month.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are the two experienced strikers on the United team but Martial has had injury issues this year.

United are resuming their interest in acquiring Gakpo in January, according to a report in the Mail, even though PSV values the player at £50 million, which is more than the Premier League team is willing to pay.

In an interview with The Times in October, Gakpo spoke on his discussions with United and said: “I was on the verge of leaving; I spoke to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United a couple times.

The deal ultimately fell through, which was unfortunate for me and my growth.”

Although the forward is under contract to the Dutch powerhouses until June 2026, it is believed that they would be open to selling him for £50 million during the summer transfer window.

The Dutchman is reportedly attracting interest from Real Madrid as well, but the Red Devils appear to be in a strong position to secure his signature next year.
