Man United’s lack of transfer activity in this summer’s transfer window has become a cause for concern for Cristiano Ronaldo.
To provide Erik ten Hag with a framework for success, the Red Devils have been pursuing players like Frenkie de Jong, Antony, and Jurrien Timber.
In sharp contrast to their Premier League opponents, they haven’t yet added a single reinforcement.
Last season, United finished in sixth place, 11 points behind fifth place, and, unlike the teams who finished ahead of them in the rankings, have yet to make any changes in the transfer market since hiring Erik ten Hag as their new manager.
Ronaldo, a Portugal international, worries that United may really go worse next season and believes they need a major reconstruction.
Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona, is the top summer transfer target for United, and during a recent phone discussion with Ten Hag, as part of a charm attack, the new United boss underlined the position the player will enjoy under him.
This past weekend, reports surfaced that the midfielder had already emptied his locker at Barcelona in preparation for a potential transfer.
But until they can find a transfer for the Dutch international, the club doesn’t seem to be stepping up any further transfer activities.
This is in spite of a number of players, including Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, and Lee Grant, leaving the first-team group at Old Trafford at the end of their contracts.
Ronaldo, who returned to the club last year from Juventus after a 12-year absence, is alleged to be concerned about the club’s predicament.
However, the team finished a staggering 35 points behind champions Manchester City.
The Portuguese superstar is now reportedly worried that the team is likely to spend another season out of contention for prizes, according to Diario AS.
According to rumors, Ronaldo, 37, does not want to play at the highest level for the remainder of his career with a team that cannot contend for big awards.
The superstar has already had to accept the fact that, for the first time since leaving Sporting Lisbon in 2003, he will not be participating in the Champions League.
Despite the club’s struggles under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, Ronaldo was a bright spot for Manchester United last season, scoring an incredible 24 goals across all competitions.
Ten Hag, who predicted the 37-year-old would add “goals” to his club at his unveiling last month, is now likely to let him stay and play for his team.
After he was hired at Old Trafford, Ten Hag said the following about him: “I am looking forward to collaborating with him.
Because of everything he has already accomplished, Ronaldo is a giant, and I believe he still has a lot of ambition.
I want to keep him inside, of course. He has been crucial for Manchester United this season and has impressive stats.”
In addition to Barcelona midfielder De Jong, Jurrien Timber, Lisandro Martinez, and Antony, all of Ajax, have been connected with a move to Old Trafford.
Christian Eriksen, a free agent after leaving Brentford, is also rumored to be on United’s radar.
