Erik ten Hag has reportedly urged on his present team despite Manchester United’s hopes of signing a number of new players before the start of the new season.
The new manager of Manchester United has urged his team to regain the confidence and form that helped them finish in the top two just over a year ago.
Erik Ten Hag has increased his activity in the transfer market recently, but his work this summer is far from over as he restructures his team at Old Trafford.
There is still time for new targets to arrive in Manchester and settle in with the goal of joining the team before their first match on August 7 against Brighton.
On the advice of the Dutchman, United is nearing a deal to sign Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
They are also nearing a £14 million agreement to sign Tyrell Malacia, the left-back for Feyenoord, who plays for De Jong’s Netherlands national squad.
Ten Hag, is also very interested in signing the 22-year-old attacker, Antony, and United are also considering Lisandro Martinez as they want to improve their defensive options.
Prior to the start of the new season, Ten Hag has made it obvious to his inherited squad that he does plan to add a few new players.
Nonetheless, he has also stressed to the players that it is up to them whether United can bounce back from a disastrous 2021/22 campaign.
Last season, United finished a shocking 11 points below the top five in the Premier League and dropped all six of their away games.
The 2020–21 season, in which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer guided the team to a comfortable second-place finish, an unbeaten road record that lasted more than a year, and a European final, was a far cry from this.
According to Paul Merson via Sky Sports, Erik ten Hag will begin in the most difficult position he has ever held, with Manchester United in “disarray.”
Even while the team may not have been put together to the same extent as rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, Ten Hag has noted that there is a notable amount of quality inside United’s ranks.
The Dutchman thinks that many players, including club captain Harry Maguire and left-back Luke Shaw, who both shone during United’s 2020–21 season before being selected to the 2020–21 Team of the Tournament, have played much below their natural level.
The same can be said for Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, two of the Premier League’s best performers before suffering abrupt declines in performance.
While players such as Andreas Pereira, Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones, and Eric Bailly are expected to be available for transfer, Manchester United will look to recruit to help replenish its ranks.
Following the expiration of their contracts, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, and Lee Grant have all already left the team.
The new manager feels the current roster will make the difference between this season’s expectations being met or not.
Regardless of the fact that United supporters are undoubtedly eager for the club to announce fresh acquisitions to strengthen Ten Hag’s first-team lineup.
