Jorginho on Barcelona’s radar as the club considers a move for the Chelsea star

Barcelona will reportedly try to buy Jorginho from Chelsea during the January transfer window, according to a report by the Spanish publication SPORT.

Jorginho has had a great professional career thus far, particularly with Napoli and Chelsea, where he had successful runs.

The midfielder, who is 30 years old, has played for Chelsea for more than four years. And aside from his rookie season, he has played a crucial role for the Blues in every other season.

The international player from Italy has played more than 200 times for Chelsea so far, contributing 29 goals and nine assists.

However, Jorginho’s future at Stamford Bridge is in jeopardy as he approaches the end of his contract in January.

Numerous influential countries in Europe, including Barcelona, have been interested in this scenario.

After declaring his retirement, Gerard Pique will play his final game of professional football for Barcelona, freeing up funds for the January transfer window.

The departure of Pique will make money available for the January transfer of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.

Inigo Martinez, a defender for Athletic Bilbao, is being eyed by Barca as a potential replacement for Gerard Pique in the center of defense during the upcoming transfer window.

By leaving mid-contract, Pique is thought to have saved the Catalan giants between £44 million and £65 million, which means there is money available for a transfer for the Italian star of the Blues as well.

On Friday, Barcelona coach Xavi told the Spanish press that he needed to sign a central defender but that he was also interested in Jorginho.

Last week, the player’s representative claimed that his client wants to continue at Stamford Bridge, but no new agreement has been reached, and until that changes, he will be out of contract in June.

Barcelona will make a first offer of about £22 million plus add-ons in an effort to persuade Chelsea to negotiate and give the Brazilian-born player a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Martinez’s contract expires at the conclusion of this season, just like Jorginho’s did when he transferred from Napoli to Chelsea in 2018.

At the Nou Camp, there is a perception that their La Liga opponents could be inclined to sell the player rather than take the chance of losing him for free in another nine months.

After having a rough start under Maurizio Sarri, Jorginho has developed into a crucial player for Chelsea.

During his stay in west London, he assisted the Blues in winning the Champions League and Europa League, as well as helping Italy win Euro 2020.

The Blues might oppose the Italian international’s sale in the offseason, but he is open to joining the Blaugrana.
