With a verbal deal in place, the French superstar, Kylian Mbappe, was generally anticipated to join Real Madrid this summer, but he suddenly appears ready to make a spectacular U-turn.
Kylian Mbappe is expected to reject Real Madrid’s offer and sign a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain, a decision that will shock the Spanish giants.
The striker stated earlier this week that his future would be decided “in a matter of days.”
After establishing a verbal agreement to join them earlier this season, it is now widely rumoured that the Frenchman will pledge his future to the French champions in a move that will stun the Spanish capital.
PSG forward Kylian Mbappe had allegedly agreed to join Real Madrid this summer, with the Spanish giants having long been interested in the Frenchman.
Mbappe’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June, and he has hinted at a transfer to Real Madrid, as well as stating in a recent interview that he is open to leaving the club.
The French striker recently met the Spanish giants in the Champions League Round of 16, scoring a last-minute winner in Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s first-leg triumph.
He also scored in the return leg in Madrid, opening the scoring before a shocking Karim Benzema hat-trick sealed PSG’s fate in Europe.
Mbappe joined PSG when he was a teenager and has continued to improve in the French capital.
In five seasons, he has 168 goals, including two in the Champions League versus Los Blancos this season.
The 23-year-old was recently sighted in Madrid, but informed his teammate that he had nothing to be concerned about.
Mbappe was linked with a transfer to Real Madrid until PSG won the race to recruit him in 2017.
They’ve been pursuing big-name acquisitions for a long time, and their fan base is clamoring for more.
There have been rumors that PSG is prepared to make the 23-year-old the club’s highest-paid player by improving the conditions of Lionel Messi and Neymar’s contracts.
Meanwhile, many sources claim that French President Emmanuel Macron has tried to encourage Mbappe, with whom he shares a friendship, to stay in Paris and reject the Spanish capital’s proposal.
Mbappe has now opted to stay at the Parc des Princes, according to Sky Sport Italia, with Marca leading the Spanish coverage that Real Madrid were no longer convinced the striker would join them this summer, having earlier been certain of the agreement.
The U-turn would bring an end to a year-long transfer story that has created plenty of headlines and conjecture over Mbappe’s – widely regarded as one of the best players in the world – decision.
Last summer, Real Madrid’s world-record transfer offer — worth more than £200 million — was turned down by PSG.
The stakes were dramatically upped by each side’s power play, with PSG risking missing out on a world record transfer fee for a player who would eventually go without a fee. However, it looks like such a decision paid off in the end.
PSG’s star player this season was Kylian Mbappe, who scored 36 goals in 45 matches to bring his total to 168 goals in five seasons at the club since signing from Monaco in 2017.
