Lisandro Martinez Seals £55million Manchester United Move

A day after Lisandro Martinez was seen arriving at the team’s training facility, his transfer from Ajax has finally been officially announced by Manchester United.

Martinez has now been added as Manchester United’s third acquisition of the summer hiring period.

United paid a fixed fee of €57.37 million (£48.3 million) plus €10 million (£8.4 million) in negotiated add-ons for the Argentina international.

Martinez will reunite at Old Trafford with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who signed him for the team in 2019.

The Argentine spent three years in the Netherlands playing under the new United manager, Erik Ten Hag, twice taking home the Eredivisie championship.

He becomes the third signing under Ten Hag’s rule, after Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia.

Martinez will be a huge help to the Red Devils’ defense, which had a difficult season and gave up the most goals among the top seven Premier League teams.

He signed a five-year contract with United that includes a one-year option to extend it.

Although United didn’t officially announce the acquisition until Wednesday noon, when he was transported to practice on Tuesday, United supporters were already aware of his coming.

Martinez and fellow newcomer Christian Eriksen, who completed a free move earlier this month after his contract with Brentford ended, arrived at United’s Carrington training facility on Tuesday.

Martinez expressed his happiness at heading to Old Trafford after the delayed confirmation of his deal.

“It’s a privilege to join this outstanding football team.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of winning teams in my career, and now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even higher.”

“I’ve worked so hard to get to this point. I want to carry on doing that at Manchester United.

It will take a lot of work to get there, but I am confident that we can do it with the help of my new teammates and this manager and coaching staff.

I want to express my gratitude to Ajax and their supporters for all of their help.

I had a fantastic experience there, but I believe the time is now to put myself to the test in a different setting. I’m in the ideal club right now to do this,” He added.

Martinez’s entry was not made official in time for him to travel to Australia for the preseason tour.

But at the time, manager Ten Hag foresaw that he would win over Red Devils supporters.

“He is a warrior, and I believe his supporters will respect him. A player with battling energy and an attitude.

He injects positive aggression into the game. I believe we require that. In addition, he has a left foot, is skilled, and can handle the ball.

The Premier League, in my opinion, is very challenging and high-intensity. Such players [with a battling attitude] are necessary. He is aware of some notions.

That is undoubtedly a benefit. He must also adjust to a new nation, club, and teammates. Therefore, a lot of things will also change.”

Lisandro Martinez previously worked with the new Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag, at Ajax.

The defender was also wanted by Arsenal but decided to go on to Old Trafford instead. Martinez can play center back, left back, and central midfield.
