Having moved from Pride Park to Anfield last year, the promising teenager has already made a handful of appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, Liverpool, netting his first professional goal earlier this season.
Liverpool and Derby County are thought to have agreed on a six-figure sum in order to remove the sell-on option from the highly-rated teen Kaide Gordon’s transfer contract.
The winger made the move from Pride Park to Anfield in early 2021 before earning his first professional contract with the Reds in October of that year.
In four senior appearances so far this season, the 17-year-old has represented his team in three separate domestic competitions.
The sell-on provision that was included into the original agreement when Liverpool agreed to sign Gordon has now been purportedly acquired by Liverpool, according to Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano.
The Derby County Chronicle says that Derby would be paid a sum of £500,000 in return for removing the 20 percent sell-on provision from the contract.
The Rams would no longer gain financially from any future transfers involving Gordon, as a result of this development.
Liverpool’s decision might turn out to be a brilliant one in the long run, since it could save them from having to transfer millions of pounds to Derby.
Consider the following scenario: If they sold Gordon for £20 million, they would owe his previous club a payment of £4 million as a result.
Moreover, it provides a much-needed boost to County, which has been under administration since September of last year.
A terrible season has befallen Wayne Rooney’s team, which were demoted from the Championship this season after receiving points punishments and movement embargoes, as well as a protracted takeover issue.
In light of Gordon’s inexperience, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has restricted his playing time this season, which is somewhat understandable considering his young age.
The fact is that they have had many expeditions with him.
He made his Premier League debut in January, coming in as a substitute in the home victory over Brentford, and he also scored his first professional goal against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup.
Klopp made the following statement after the performance:
“Kaide is constantly on our thoughts because he is such a special talent in our eyes. For his age, he had a little decline in physique.”
“He’s an exceptional player who, as long as he’s in good shape, will be on my mind constantly. See where this goes from here.
The Shrewsbury game was quite beneficial; he was exposed to true adult football and was able to cope with the situation well. The formation of his character is critical in this regard.”
A single appearance for Derby, where Gordon had been a member since he was eight years old, was his last season in the Premier League.
It was in a Championship match against Birmingham in December 2020 that he made his single senior appearance.
After the news of his departure was revealed, Rooney praised the young midfielder, stating he did not seem out of place practicing among veteran players despite the fact that he was only sixteen years old.
Rooney expressed himself in the following manner: “Initial training with the first team was to observe how Kaide would respond to being with us for a week.
He turned out to be one of the finest trainers I’ve ever worked with.
In the meantime, I’ve kept him with us for a few of weeks, and he’s been training at the same level as many of the other [senior] players, if not higher.”
