Manchester United have agreed an £85m deal with Ajax for winger Antony.
There are still many significant deals in the works, even if there are only four days before the transfer window closes till the new year.
In the next 48 hours, Antony is anticipated to complete his £85 million transfer to Manchester United, bringing Erik ten Hag’s summer spending to over $225 million.
The 22-year-old, who is scheduled to have a medical in Manchester on Monday, will receive a guaranteed £80.75 million from United as well as an additional £4.25 million in add-on payments.
Antony will be Ten Hag’s fifth acquisition since he assumed leadership in June.
To be available for United’s Premier League game against Leicester City on Thursday, he must register by noon on Wednesday.
That is considered unlikely because Antony needs to arrange for a visa and work permit.
In light of the ongoing negotiations between the two clubs, Antony was once again omitted from the Ajax roster for Sunday’s game versus Utrecht.
Personal terms are not anticipated to be an issue in this agreement.
Antony has been a target for United for several weeks, and this week, the club rejected a £67.9 million (€80 million) approach from United.
Due to work visa problems, Antony is unlikely to make his Manchester United debut on Thursday against Leicester.
The £84 million signing is more likely to make his debut against Arsenal on the weekend since it takes time to finish all the paperwork.
The 22-year-old Brazilian can anticipate receiving a weekly salary of about £200,000.
Ten Hag targeted Antony two months ago, but the deal fell through because Ajax was adamant about holding out for the highest price.
Ten Hag has also been linked to a shocking bid for Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Erik Ten Hag made it plain how keen he was to sign someone he believes will have a significant influence in the Premier League, and United’s managers finally agreed to pay the asking amount.
After moving to the Dutch giants from Sao Paulo in 2020, Antony played alongside Ten Hag there.
Since making his international debut in 2021, he has made 82 appearances, scored 25 goals, contributed 22 assists, and earned nine Brazilian caps.
In addition, the 22-year-old will surpass Jack Grealish, Paul Pogba, and Romelu Lukaku as the fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history.
As a result, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to become even more driven than before to find a new club before the transfer window ends on Thursday as a result of his arrival.
