Man United In Talks With Newcastle To Sign Martin Dubravka On A Loan Deal

Martin Dubravka, a goalkeeper for Newcastle, was not persuaded to join Manchester United in January, but Erik ten Hag is prepared to make another move for the Magpies’ star.

Time is running out for the former Ajax manager, who has made just four signings so far this summer, to overhaul a United team that finished last season with their worst-ever Premier League finish.

Manchester United and Newcastle United have had preliminary discussions on the loan signing of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

After Dean Henderson joined Nottingham Forest on loan, Manchester United are looking for a goalkeeper to compete with David de Gea and Tom Heaton.

Dubravka is believed to be amenable to the move and there shouldn’t be any issues regarding personal matters.

After signing Casemiro for £60 million last week, United are on the market for attacking reinforcements.

However, Ten Hag is also eager to replace David de Gea, who has struggled in the first few games of the season, with a goalkeeper who is happy playing out from the back.

The Dutchman has reportedly identified Dubravka as a potential short-term answer to United’s goalkeeper hunt, according to Sky Sports.

Dubravka must be persuaded to reconsider his decision to move to Old Trafford after turning down the opportunity to do so during Ralf Rangnick’s interim management if United are to complete a deal for the Newcastle star.

But while they continue to look for a keeper who can challenge De Gea, United will be hoping that Dubravka is more open to a season-long loan move after losing his job at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle United officials and Dubravka’s representatives are anticipated to have in-person discussions this week, though no deal has yet been reached between the two teams.

Ten Hag’s search for a new shot-stopper has already encountered obstacles.

Kevin Trapp, the goalkeeper for Eintracht Frankfurt, said on Thursday that he had been extended a Manchester United offer but turned it down.

Choosing instead to stay with the Europa League champions, who are taking part in the Champions League group stage this year.

With only one week left before the September 1 transfer deadline, Dubravka is the last viable alternative after a bid for Yann Sommer fell through.

Dubravka joined Newcastle in 2018, initially on loan, and has since made 130 Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

And for Ten Hag, who is looking for a seasoned goalkeeper capable of pressuring De Gea, the former Sparta Prague player meets the criteria.

Manchester United lost to Brentford a few weeks ago as a result of De Gea’s errors, and there are questions as to whether he will fit in well with Ten Hag’s style of play.

The previous Premier League winners only have three points from their first three Premier League games, with two losses and a win over Liverpool last week.

They also failed to qualify for the Champions League this season.
