Manchester United Announce Christian Eriksen And Lisandro Martinez Squad Numbers

The new jersey number for Christian Eriksen has been revealed by Manchester United following their announcement that defender Lisandro Martinez will wear the No. 6 at Old Trafford.

Following his free transfer from Brentford, Christian Eriksen will wear No. 14 this season, Manchester United has announced.

Eriksen signed a term until 2025 after being released by Brentford at the end of the previous season, and Erik ten Hag’s team sealed the signing of him on a three-year agreement earlier this month.

The 30-year-old international from Denmark joined United earlier this month as Erik Ten Hag’s second acquisition after Tyrell Malacia.

In addition, Lisandro Martinez, who will take over for Paul Pogba as their new No. 6, has been officially announced by Manchester United.

On Wednesday, the Red Devils officially announced the £55 million acquisition of the 24-year-old Martinez from Ajax.

The international from Argentina has signed a five-year contract with Old Trafford, becoming Erik ten Hag’s third signing, following Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia, since his hiring.

The No. 8 jersey, which was reportedly Eriksen’s top option, has since been claimed by Bruno Fernandes.

After Juan Mata left, the Portuguese playmaker gave up his No. 18 earlier this summer. After donning the No. 8 while playing for Sporting Lisbon, Fernandes got the tattoo.

Eriksen will take up the No. 14 jersey that was worn by Jesse Lingard, a fellow midfielder, when he left the team on a free transfer.

Martinez spent three years at Ajax and wore the No. 21 jersey. The No.21, which Martinez was anticipated to wear, is apparently still available.

Naturally, Frenkie de Jong prefers that number, so his mooted move from Barcelona to United may still take place before the transfer market closes in September.

Martinez comes to Old Trafford with a strong resume, having won four awards at Ajax, including two Eredivisie championships.

He won the honor under Ten Hag and is currently their Player of the Season. At the international level, he has also won the Copa America and Finalissima.

We will play as a team, and for sure I know the fans of Manchester United. I watch videos, when I watch a game, I also get some opinions, and the Manchester United fans are so crazy.

But I like that passion because football is about it too,” Martinez said in a message to the fans.

“I will give my 100 percent every game, every training. For sure, with the team, we will do it. Eriksen has had a successful career.”

He has participated in over 650 matches for both club and country, winning six trophies, including three Eredivisie championships and the Serie A championship.

He was a member of the Tottenham squad that advanced to the 2019 Champions League final.

Eriksen has acknowledged that Ten Hag played a big part in convincing him to sign with United.

“It was amazing and excellent for me to get the decision and the opportunity to come to Manchester United to meet with the manager, hear his views, and have a dialogue with him on football terms,” the player said.

In his unofficial debut for United on Wednesday, the 30-year-old scored a free kick as his new team thrashed Wrexham 4-1 in a friendly game played behind closed doors.

At Carrington, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez each participated in the first 45 minutes of the game before being substituted at halftime with the score tied 1-1.
