Mauro Icardi, the latest forward to be linked with a trade to Manchester United this summer, is reportedly open to the prospect of playing for the Red Devils.
The forward from Argentina has recently been linked with a summer transfer to Manchester United as the Red Devils search for a new No. 9.
Even if Cristiano Ronaldo stays at the club, the Red Devils intend to add a new forward before the transfer window closes due to the dearth of options available to head coach Erik ten Hag.
Icardi hasn’t had the greatest of times in Paris and recently has been training separately from the team.
It is thought that moving away from the French metropolis would be in the best interests of both the player and the team.
Icardi has now dropped further down the pecking order in a team that also includes Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe.
And new PSG manager Christophe Galtier has ordered him to train separately from the rest of the squad and says he is free to leave.
In a recent news conference, Galtier stated, “I informed him that I wanted to cut the size of the group and not work with 25 outfield players.
Mauro and the club are collaborating closely to find the best solution.
Since he hasn’t played much, I believe it would be ideal for him to start playing again.”
This summer, United have seen attempts to sign a number of strikers fall through amidst the uncertainty around Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.
Christian Eriksen was introduced as a false nine in last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion by new manager Erik ten Hag, who is desperate to sign a new forward.
This summer, United have seen attempts to sign Timo Werner, a German international, and young sensation Benjamin Sesko, both of whom have joined RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg and Chelsea, respectively.
Marko Arnautovic, a former attacker for Stoke and West Ham, was also a target for United, but a deal to bring the 33-year-old Bologna player in fell through.
Icardi would now appear to be the next player on United’s list, and according to the Argentinean outlet TyC Sports, the 29-year-old would “welcome” a loan deal to Old Trafford with the possibility of a straight transfer or a permanent switch.
Icardi is also rumoured to have been targeted by Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray, with whom Nara is said to have already met three times.
Icardi’s agent, Wanda Nara, is reportedly leading negotiations over his future.
Ten Hag has had disappointment in the transfer market thus far at United, where the only newcomers are Eriksen, full-back Tyrell Malacia, and center-back Lisandro Martinez.
Speaking on Friday, the Dutchman acknowledged that the team needed to add more fresh players, with a central midfielder and a forward being especially important.
However, after previously raising objections to the signings of Marko Arnautovic and Adrien Rabiot, Red Devils supporters have urged the club not to sign the striker.
