Memphis Depay On Man United’s Radar As They Consider A Late Move For The Barcelona Star

As the summer transfer window draws to a close, Manchester United and Memphis Depay are being mentioned as being linked for a possible late move.

At the end of the summer transfer season, Manchester United are considering a move to re-sign former attacker Memphis Depay from Barcelona.

The international player from the Netherlands had previously joined the team during the summer 2015 transfer window but was later released after barely 18 months.

The acquisitions of Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Raphinha this year have moved Memphis down the Camp Nou pecking order.

His mooted move to Juventus earlier this month fell through. Memphis joined Barca as a free agent last summer.

This has intensified the pressure on the Catalan club to remove the 28-year-old from their payroll in the coming days so they can officially register Jules Kounde and any more arrivals at Barca before the transfer window closes.

The Manchester Evening News suggested Memphis as a possibility for United.

While he is familiar with Erik ten Hag, who served as PSV’s assistant coach when the forward played for Eindhoven, the club values his attacking variety.

He has a contract that expires at Barcelona in the coming summer, and the club is willing to allow his departure for a low price this summer.

United are now interested in a possible switch, reversing their previous position that they had no interest in re-signing the forward, marking the latest U-turn from their transfer advisors.

Erik ten Hag is looking for attacking reinforcements before the September 1 transfer deadline as a result of the Red Devils’ protracted pursuit of Ajax winger Antony and the uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.

Memphis scored just seven goals in 53 appearances for United, who felt their reputation was tarnished by the move to sign the gifted but unproven forward seven years ago.

Memphis scored 13 goals for Barcelona last season.

United’s top transfer target is still the Ajax forward, Antony, though Cody Gakpo of PSV has also been mentioned.

Robert Pires, a former Arsenal legend, claims that Depay still has “unfinished business” to take care of at Old Trafford.

The two-time Premier League champion discussed the possibility of the then-Lyon player having a second stint at United in an interview with Bwin in 2019.

According to Pires, Depay feels he has unfinished business in England and wants to return to the Premier League. “Depay is a very proud player.

He perhaps feels he wasn’t given an opportunity to succeed and earn the right to remain longer since he was so young and showed glimpses of undeniable promise.”

Memphis Depay, a forward for Barcelona, may make a surprise return to Manchester United this summer after his attempt to join Juventus fell through last week, according to rumours in Spain.

United have been in contact with Barcelona all summer, and although it may not be the guy most people had anticipated, they may get a player from the Nou Camp.
