Reece James commits to a new six-year deal at Chelsea

Reece James, a defender for Chelsea, signed a new six-year contract at Stamford Bridge and has promised to assist the Blues win more trophies.

The defender first earned a name for himself during an eye-catching loan stint with Wigan Athletic, and the following season, under Frank Lampard, he was given a spot in the Chelsea lineup.

Despite a shaky start to the season, the Chelsea has agreed to a new six-year contract at Stamford Bridge and pledged his support to the fans and his teammates for the upcoming campaign.

The right-back has committed his future to the West London club through 2028, with new owner Todd Boehly prioritizing James’ extension given that his previous contract was slated to expire in 2025.

James has reportedly signed a new contract, much to the pleasure of Chelsea fans who have seen him develop into a key component under Thomas Tuchel.

He is now one of the highest-paid defenders in the club’s history.

James will reportedly earn £250,000 per week under his new contract, making him the highest-paid defender in Chelsea history.

The 22-year-old expressed his joy at finally putting pen to paper after the news of his extended stay was verified and vowed to try to win more awards throughout the duration of his time at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “I am over the moon with my new deal and I’m appreciative of the supporters, the new ownership, and everyone involved with the club,” in a statement on Chelsea’s official website.

“I am excited to see what the future holds and know that there will be plenty of opportunities for us to win trophies.

I have been a fan of this club since I was six years old, and I grew up doing so. Because this is the club I want to be at, I signed a new contract.

We have a bright future ahead of us, and I’d like to express a special thank you to the fans.”

Of course, James has already had success with Chelsea, having won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup while playing for the first squad.

Since then, he has played 128 times for the Blues in all competitions and has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most productive and forward-thinking defenders.

He had possibly his greatest season ever last year, scoring six goals and dishing out ten assists, although the latter half of the season was cut short by injury.

However, he has delivered a lot of strong performances this season, continuing precisely where he left off.

James has earned international prominence for his performances for Chelsea and for the England team under Gareth Southgate, where he has made 13 appearances.

Blues owner Todd Boehly said in response to the news of his new contract: “We are happy to grant Reece a new long-term contract at Chelsea.

He is a fantastic player and a real Chelsea man, and we are all looking forward to watching him continue to grow at Stamford Bridge.”
