Ruben Neves On The Cards For Man Utd As Erik Ten Hag Appears Keen To Sign The Midfielder.

Ruben Neves of Wolverhampton Wanderers is expected to depart Molineux, with Manchester United and Arsenal both keeping an eye on the Portuguese international.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is said to have made Ruben Neves a key priority, telling the board to make sure the Red Devils sign the Portugal international ahead of Arsenal.

It should come as no surprise that Manchester United are already making moves in the summer transfer market after a particularly dreadful year.

Last Saturday, United limped across the finish line of their domestic campaign, capping off their poorest ever Premier League season, in which they shipped more goals than ever before on their route to their lowest ever points tally in the modern era.

United, Arsenal, and Newcastle are all said to be interested in the former Porto midfielder, who is expected to cost over £50 million if the deal goes through.

Neves’ comments following Wolves’ last game of the season against Liverpool, in which he suggested that his future may lie outside of Molineux, may have encouraged the interested parties.

As he prepares for his debut season at Old Trafford, ten Hag has been connected with a number of midfield players.

Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona and Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach have also been mentioned, although Neves has Premier League experience.

“Because our careers are so brief, we must seize the possibilities that come our way.” After Wolves’ last game, the 25-year-old stated.

“Of course, we all have aspirations that we need to fulfill in a short period of time. Let’s see how things go. I’m not sure how much more I can say about it.”

According to The Sun, United are preparing a “last push” for Neves with Ten Hag’s permission, while Bruno Lage’s side are eyeing Sporting CP’s Joao Palhinha as a possible substitute.

According to reports, Neves is Ten Hag’s top goal, albeit he isn’t the only one. Back in 2017, while Wolves were still in the second tier, Neves signed for a club record fee of £15.8 million.

Since joining the club from Porto, he has played over 200 times for the club, scoring 24 goals, and was a member of Portugal’s Euro 2020 team.

Alternatives to consider Palhinha was also a member of Fernando Santos’ team, having made his international debut only a few months before the competition.

With long-serving first-teamers Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic poised to go, United will require midfield reinforcements.

Pogba’s contract expires this summer, and a return to Juventus has been suggested, while Matic said in April that the 2021-22 season will be his final at United.

“I have decided that this season will be my last at Manchester United after much thought.” the Serbian declared at the time.

“My decision has been communicated to the board, the manager, and the players. It has been a tremendous honor and privilege to play for such a prestigious club.

Thank you so much to the fans for their everlasting support. I’m going to give it my all till the conclusion of the season to assist my teammates finish strong.”
