Sergej Milinkovic-Savic In The Cards For Arsenal As Possible Ruben Neves Alternative

Arsenal have allegedly added Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to their summer transfer wishlist as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his midfield options.

Arsenal have turned to Serie A in their hunt, with the former Manchester United target reported as a possible addition.

The Gunners will be trying to improve on their fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season, which they nearly missed out on.

They will need to upgrade their team in various areas in order to do so, and Mikel Arteta is anticipated to be allocated funds to spend this summer.

The Gunners’ manager is looking to bolster his midfield options this summer.

Youri Tielemans of Leicester City has been highlighted as a top target for the north London club, while Ruben Neves of Wolverhampton Wanderers has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Of course, there is still time to make a move in the window, but Arsenal look to have found another alternative in Lazio’s Milinkovic-Savic.

The Gunners are mulling a move for the Serbian, according to Corriere dello Sport, and would be ready to pay a high price for his services.

Arsenal is said to be willing to pay up to £42 million for the former Genk players, but it is unclear if this would be enough to persuade Lazio to sell.

The Serie A heavyweights are reportedly demanding £55 million but are not in a hurry to cash in because the 27-year-old has two years left on his contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

Although no official proposals have been made for the player, Arsenal is considering a bid.

Newcastle United have also been linked with a move for Milinkovic-Savic this summer, although despite having the financial means to do so, the Serbian is said to find a move to St James’ Park an ‘unappealing proposal.’

The Magpies have the richest owner in international football, according to the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

They may theoretically outbid Arsenal for Milinkovic-Savic, but their lack of participation in European competition could work against them.

Should Arsenal be successful in acquiring his services, it is also stated that the midfielder may be a replacement for Granit Xhaka, who is still linked with a move to AS Roma.

Since his arrival in 2015, Milinkovic-Savic has earned a reputation as one of the most reliable midfielders in Serie A.

Last season, he had his most prolific season of his career, scoring 11 goals and assisting 12 times for Maurizio Sarri’s side in all competitions.

It’s not the first time the Serbian has piqued the Premier League’s attention in his career.

Manchester United have been connected with him on several occasions, and it would not be surprising if they tried to sign him once again.

Following the exits of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, incoming manager Erik ten Hag hopes to bring in a new midfielder this summer.

Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona has been chosen as his top choice, and the Red Devils have begun negotiations to negotiate a transfer.

United made a £60 million offer for the Dutchman, which was turned down by the Catalan giants, but the Red Devils are not deterred and are set to return with a better offer sooner rather than later.
