Erik ten Hag will be eager to complete other acquisitions after concluding a deal to bring defender Tyrell Malacia, a member of the Dutch national team, to Manchester United.
Tyrell Malacia, who completed a £14.7 million transfer from Feyenoord, has officially arrived at Manchester United and has become the club’s first signing under new manager Erik ten Hag.
The 22-year-old has agreed to a four-year deal at Old Trafford, with an additional year’s option.
He is anticipated to be the first of many signings for United’s new manager, Erik ten Hag, who may return to the Eredivisie for other hires as he now goes on to his next objective.
In an effort to outbid rival French club Lyon, United increased their interest in the Dutch international.
Erik Ten Hag has done extensive talent scouting on Malacia while serving as the head coach of Ajax.
He possesses the qualities the Dutchman is looking for at Old Trafford, and the manager thinks he will help United, particularly during times of transition.
He declared upon joining the team: “Joining Manchester United is a great feeling.
This is a new chapter for me; I’m playing in a new league with new teammates under a fantastic manager in Erik ten Hag.
Because I’ve competed against his teams in the Eredivisie, I am aware of his strengths and the standards he has for his players.”
John Murtough, the director of football at United, remarked, “Tyrell is an exciting, dynamic young footballer with exceptional experience for his age.
This includes five seasons in the Eredivisie, a European final, and full international recognition for the Netherlands.
Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff will do a great job of guiding him as he continues to grow. Tyrell is welcomed to Manchester United by everyone.”
With Ten Hag taking over from Ralf Rangnick, United’s players have already started preparing for the upcoming campaign.
Additionally, the acquisition of Malacia—who was also desired by Olympique Lyonnais of France—enables them to improve in a position that caused problems in the previous campaign.
Luke Shaw, who had already established himself as United’s primary left-back before an injury-plagued 2021–22 season, will have competition from Malacia.
When asked to fill in, Alex Telles performed poorly, and the Brazilian may decide to leave the team this summer.
In terms of fresh hires, United are far from finished.
Frenkie de Jong, a compatriot of Malacia, is expected to join from Barcelona for about £56 million, and other players from title-winning Ajax have also been connected.
The cost of winger Antony, along with Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez, has drawn significant interest, albeit it may still be a roadblock.
Ten Hag hopes Malacia will be the first of five new hires before the end of the month, according to The Manchester Evening News.
For United, this summer has been one of transition as several long-tenured players have left the organization.
Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, and Jesse Lingard have all gone on, and Nemanja Matic has joined former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho at Roma.
Ten Hag is drawn to Malacia because of his speed, spatial awareness, high interception rate, and ability to attack.
Malacia’s signing demonstrates the Dutchman’s desire to bolster his team with eager young players, but he may possibly follow this up by bringing in more seasoned players.
There will undoubtedly be more new faces as United continues its preseason training.
