As Jesse Lingard nears a return to West Ham a year after his successful loan stay, he has teased fans on social media about his future plans.
In a sneaky Instagram post, Jesse Lingard gave a huge hint that he was about to re-join West Ham.
The England international is currently a free agent as his contract with Manchester United was not renewed at the end of the last campaign.
The 29-year-old, who joined the team at the age of eight, rose through the ranks at Old Trafford.
He also spent time on loan at a number of other teams, notably West Ham, where he quickly won over the team’s supporters.
Despite spending only six months in east London, the attacker scored nine goals in 16 games for David Moyes’ team.
The England player spent the entirety of the previous season on the bench at Old Trafford.
This was due to a failed permanent swap, but the England player is reportedly close to making a comeback to the London Stadium.
After news emerged on Monday that West Ham were close to signing Lingard, the player posted a message to his social media followers.
Lingard posted a mysterious photo of a takeout place with the enigmatic caption, “Chicken Run,” which is also the name of the East Stand at the former home of the Hammers at Upton Park.
Along with a heart emoji, Lingard added the statement, “If you know, you know.”
The biggest indication yet that the former United academy graduate is to rejoin the Hammers for a second stint is Lingard’s cheeky post.
He is reportedly expected to receive a staggering £150,000 a week as part of any agreement.
Lingard will be returning to the East London club after spending the second half of the 2020–21 season on loan with David Moyes’ Hammers.
He scored nine goals in 16 games, seemingly reviving his career after slipping down the Manchester hierarchy.
Although Lingard has been linked to a number of teams this summer, he is still an unsigned free agent.
On Monday morning, The Evening Standard stated that the Hammers were “certain” that Lingard and Lille midfielder Amadou Onana would be acquired in a double deal this week.
This week, Lingard is anticipated to make a statement regarding his future.
Over the course of the summer, Lingard had numerous offers, and early this month, he even flew to the United States to accept one.
The winger, who was rumored to be on loan at St. James’ Park in the January transfer window, caught the attention of Newcastle as well.
Lingard will have something to prove to Man United if he decides to stay in England.
Having spent the last season on the bench despite being expected to play in the first team following his impressive time with the Hammers.
After finding it difficult to get game time at Old Trafford last season, the winger wants to ensure that he can play frequently at his possible new club.
West Ham is one of Lingard’s top possibilities, yet it is unclear where he will end up.
